Releases

Approximately every 6 months the FFmpeg project makes a new major version. Major releases include point releases that add important bug fixes but not new features. Please note that these versions are intended for distributors and system integrators. Users who wish to compile from source code are strongly encouraged to consider using the development branch (see above), this is the only version that FFmpeg developers are actively working on. Release branches only select selected changes from the development branch, which therefore receives much faster and much faster bug fixes, such as additional features and security patches.
